International Students

Gordonstoun is a unique School with a predominantly Scottish flavour but following the English education system and benefiting from many cultural influences.

At any time we have representatives from 40 nationalities, around a third of the school population.

As we are one of the only remaining independent schools in the UK with a full boarding ethos, Gordonstoun remains open throughout the spring and summer terms and mainstream activities run through the weekends.

As a result, international students integrate extremely well at Gordonstoun and all religious and cultural events are fully respected.

Special services for international students include:

  • travel services
  • help and support with English, if required

Students whose parents live abroad are also required to have a guardian while at Gordonstoun.

Gordonstoun's travel services

We have a dedicated Travel Office and the services we offer include:

  • advice and help for domestic and international air travel;
  • advice and help for travel arrangements within the UK; and
  • rail tickets and taxi and coach transfers to airports and rail stations.

We enlist the help of a local Travel Agent who can advise on the best route and the most competitive fares.

Escorted school coaches operate to airports at the start and end of terms so that students can connect with the flights we recommend.

English language support

We assess each student before and on arrival at School. Each will receive the appropriate level of help and support from our English as an Additional Language (EAL) specialists.

For example, some students will require a little help and support while others may need full in-class assistance.

Back

Student guardians

We are responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students.

We therefore require that all students whose parents live abroad have a guardian resident in the United Kingdom, preferably within travelling distance of the School.

Guardians provide an additional source of support and security for students. They attend school activities such as open days and meetings with staff. They also provide accommodation, if required.

If parents are not able to nominate a guardian, we can select a suitable family.
