 Chairman, Professor Bryan Williams

CHAIRMAN


Professor Bryan P Williams   OBE BA MA CQSW


Bryan Williams joined the Gordonstoun Board in 1994 and appointed Chairman in 2004. In recent years, he has been Chair of both the Education and Strategy Committees and prior to that he was Chairman of Governors at Aberlour House. His daughter attended both Schools between 1987 and 1995 and worked as a teaching assistant at Aberlour House during 1997-98.


Bryan has been a professor at the University of Dundee since 1989 and is Executive Director of the Scottish Institute for Excellence in Social Work Education, a sector-wide collaboration between Scottish universities, colleges and social services employees. He has been an academic for over thirty years, teaching and researching largely in the fields of criminology and criminal justice. He is a member of a number of national advisory and regulatory bodies and has served on the board of several voluntary sector charitable organisations.


He was awarded the OBE in 2003 for services to professional education.

Joint Deputy Chairman, Mr James Ferguson

Mr James G D Ferguson  BA


James Ferguson joined the Gordonstoun Board in 1993 and appointed Vice-Chairman in 2004. He is also Chairman of the Strategy Committee and a Trustee of the Gordonstoun Foundation.


 A graduate in Economics and Political Science from Trinity College, Dublin, James  is Chairman of Value and Income Trust plc, the Monks Investment Trust plc, The Scottish Oriental Smaller Companies plc and Edinburgh US Tracker Trust plc.  He is also Director of the Independent Investment Trust plc, Northern 3 VCT plc,  Audax Properties plc, Lloyds TSB Scotland plc and a Trustee of Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland. 


 He retired as Chairman of Stewart Ivory in 2000 and is a former Deputy Chairman of the Association of Investment Trust Companies.


 Joint Deputy Chairman, Mr Angus Morgan

VICE-CHAIRMAN


Mr Angus Morgan MBE


Angus Morgan joined the Gordonstoun Board in 1996 and appointed Vice-Chairman in 2004.  He was also Chairman of the Development Committee and member of the Marketing Taskforce.


Angus attended Gordonstoun from 1957 to 1962 and was at both Duffus and Cumming House (House Helper).  After a brief period teaching at Clifton Hall School, Angus joined Unilever as a Management Trainee and went on to hold various general and marketing management posts ultimately as Marketing Director of Marine Harvest Ltd.  Most recently he was Chairman of Ardvar Salmon, Sutherland and past Chairman of The Scottish Salmon Board; The International Salmon Farmers’ Association and Food Certification Scotland. 


Angus was awarded an MBE in 1992 for services to the Scottish Salmon Industry.

 Governor, Mr Stephen Baldock

Mr Stephen Baldock  MA


Stephen Baldock joined the Gordonstoun Board in 2006 and is Chairman of the Education Committee.


Stephen has a degree in Classics and Theology and was High Master of St Paul’s School London from 1992 to 2004.  He was appointed to that post from within the School, having been a Housemaster from 1977 to 1984 and Surmaster from 1984.


Stephen now lives in Hampshire where he is a churchwarden and a Trustee of several educational and charitable Trusts.


Governor, Mr George Grunebaum

 

 Mr George Grunebaum  BA


George Grunebaum joined the Board in 2003 and has been involved with the Gordonstoun American Foundation since the late 1980s and its President since 2000. His main focus is American matters and general fundraising.


George attended Gordonstoun from 1976 – 1981 and was a member of Round Square.  He began his career in finance at Chase Manhattan Bank in New York in 1986 and retired from JPMorganChase in 2005 after spending 19 years in the Emerging Markets division of the bank and the last few as head of client and proprietary trading.


In 2005 he founded Dolomite Capital Management, an emerging market asset management firm focused on hedge fund products.


Governor, Mrs Lisa Kerr

Mrs Lisa Kerr  BA FRSA


Lisa Kerr joined the Board in 2006 and is a member of the Finance & Estates Committee.


Lisa trained as a classical and jazz musician at the City of Edinburgh Music School and the University of York.   She is currently one of the leading executives in UK Commercial Radio and as Director of External Affairs at the RadioCentre, is responsible for regulatory and legislative affairs, press and PR.


Lisa’s radio career began at Radio Forth (Edinburgh) and Classic FM (London) as a producer and presenter.  She was then appointed founding Managing Director of a new radio enterprise which became one of the country’s largest operators of small radio stations. 


Lisa is also a Director of Scottish Opera and a member of the Moray Maternity Services Liaison Committee.


Ms Sophie Kueffer-Upton

Sophie Kueffer-Upton

Sophie Kueffer-Upton joined the Board in 2007 and has responsibility for alumni matters. 


Sophie attended Gordonstoun from 1977 - 1982 (Windmill Lodge). She went on to study Business Organisation at Heriot-Watt University before moving to Switzerland, where she studied Economics for a further year at Neuchatel University.

Since then Sophie has worked in various fields including business translating, property development and voluntary after-school sports teaching. She has also been involved in children’s charity work since 1999.

Three years ago Sophie began writing, and has just finished, her first novel.

Governor, Mr Richard Marsham

Richard Marsham BCom

Richard joined the Gordonstoun Board in 2008 and has responsibility for marketing matters.

Richard has worked at The Leith Agency, Scotland’s leading marketing communications agency, since 2002. In 2004 he was promoted to the Managing Partner position and currently has responsibility for the day-to-day running of the agency and its 95 staff. He has spent his entire career working in marketing communications on both the client (Scottish & Newcastle) and agency side. In terms of client experience Richard currently works on the Scottish Government account across a number of campaigns, plus Golden Wonder and Standard Life. 

Originally from the Lake District, Richard followed his father’s footsteps to Gordonstoun (1982-87) and then he went on to Edinburgh University (Bachelor of Commerce). He still lives in Edinburgh..


Sir Dusty Miller

Sir Dusty Miller


Sir Dusty Miller joined the Board in 2007 and is a member of the Strategy Committee.


Sir Dusty joined the Royal Air Force in 1967 and served in a range of home and overseas appointments, most recently as the Deputy Commander in the NATO Headquarters in Naples.  He commanded RAF Lossiemouth during the period 1995-1997, during which time his daughter and son attended Gordonstoun School.


Sir Dusty retired from the Royal Air Force in January 2008. .


 Governor, Mr John Nicholson

Mr John Nicholson


John Nicholson joined the Board in 1994 and was a member of the Aberlour House Board 10 years prior to that.  He has served on a number of committees including Strategy and Finance & Estates.  He is also a member of the Gordonstoun American Foundation.


John attended Gordonstoun from 1958 – 1963 ending his time as Guardian.  He was a member of the original Altyre House near Forres.  His two daughters are also OGs.


He has worked in the timber and building materials industry in the UK holding directorships with several companies before buying into an Aberdeen based business in 1992.  He was Chairman of Grays Group before selling the business in 2003 since when he has retired and moved back to Moray.

 Governor, Mr Peter Ord

Mr Peter Ord  LVO FRICS BSc FBA ARAgS


Peter Ord joined the Board in 2001 and is a member of the Finance and Estates Committee. He is a parent of an OG (Duffus House).


A Chartered Surveyor, Peter is Resident Factor of Balmoral Estates in Aberdeenshire.  He is a former Board Member of Angus College of Further Education and currently Director of River Dee Trust, Upper Deeside Access Trust, Crathie Opportunity Holiday and a member of the Council of Snowsport Scotland.  He is also a former partner of Youngs, Chartered Surveyors, and now a Consultant with Bell Ingram.


Peter’s principal interest is in Land Management.

 Governor, Mrs Anne Pollock

 Mrs Anne Pollock  ASCT C Text ATI


Anne Pollock joined the Board in 2005 and is a member of the Education Committee and served also on the Finance & Estates Committee.


After graduating with a degree in Textile Design from the Scottish College of Textiles, Anne worked in design and marketing with International Wool and Hoechst AG, the fibre marketing organisations, before establishing her own design consultancy company working with clients internationally. She has taught and lectured in design and served as an external assessor at universities around the UK.


Anne has two sons, both of whom are OGs.

Governor, Mrs Tanya Rose Simpson

Mrs Tanya Rose Simpson


Tanya Rose Simpson joined the Board in 2005 and is Chairman of the Gordonstoun Plus Campaign Leadership Board.


Tanya attended Gordonstoun from 1979-1983 (Windmill Lodge) and went on to live in Paris whilst studying French Literature and History of Art at La Sorbonne.  She then joined the Savoy Group and held several positions including Sales Manager of The St James’s Club in Paris; Sales Manager of The Savoy and  Director of Sales and Marketing at the Berkeley.


In 1993 Tanya set up Mason Rose, a hotel Sales and Marketing Company and has now built up a portfolio of 47 privately owned hotels.  Her main responsibility is developing new business and promoting the hotels to senior executives, high net worth individuals and celebrities for their private and business travel.


Governor, Mr Roger Trafford

Mr Roger Trafford MA


Roger joined the Board in 2003 and has responsibility for international matters.


Roger read Modern History at Oxford University and went on to teach in America and at St Paul’s Prep School.  Twenty-nine years as a Prep School Headmaster took him to King’s, Taunton, Clifton and the Dragon School, Oxford.  He was Chairman of IAPS and of ISIS and, for four years, Deputy Chairman of ISC.  Since he retired he has worked for the Cognita group of schools as an educational consultant.  He is a headhunter and governs a primary school, two prep schools and four senior schools.


Roger is also a Trustee of the North Foreland Lodge Trust which is set up to grant bursaries to girls aged 11-18 in full-time education.


Mr David White MBA


David joined the Board in June 2008. He was a pupil at Gordonstoun from 1965 to 1970 and was the Helper of Altyre House. His daughter attended the School from 2004 to 2006. He is a member of the Campaign Leadership Board and has been active in developing support for the Campaign. He is also a member of the Board of the Gordonstoun Foundation.

He has spent most of his career since leaving School as an investment banker, with Baring Brothers, JP Morgan, and Citigroup. He is currently Vice Chairman of Hines Associates Ltd, a corporate finance company specializing in advising companies in the financial sector. David is a graduate in Economics and has an MBA from the Scottish Business School at Strathclyde University. He has a particular interest in developing small companies and is regularly an investor in, and director of, early stage businesses.

Originally from Greenock, Scotland, David now lives in Chiswick, West London, and Devon.


Governor, Mr John Yeoman

Mr John Yeoman  MA CA


John joined the Board in 1999 and is Chairman of the Finance & Estates Committee.


After graduating from Aberdeen University John joined Thomson McLintock & Co qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1977.  He later joined the Oilfab Group Ltd as Company Secretary and in 1987 joined Ritsons as a partner taking responsibility for audit and corporate services work.  He has also developed specialities covering medical practices, charitable and educational trusts and private education. 


John is now Managing Partner of Ritsons which has offices in Elgin, Inverness and Buckie.
