Captain Toby Rider - Duffus 1998
By Steve Brown
This year’s annual Service of Remembrance took place on Sunday 8th November 2009 in St Christopher’s Chapel. The Address was given by Captain Toby Rider MC (Duffus House, 1998) who spoke with great clarity and sincerity about the passing of Harry Patch, and with his loss that last direct link to those who sacrificed so much in the trenches during the Great War. Toby explained that whilst it is right, and proper, that we should remember the collective sacrifices made in two World Wars, we should also remember that resolving conflict is about individuals doing their duty so that the majority can live in relative peace and security.
