Ogstoun Theatre (Performing Arts Facilities) - opened 2005

Our initial drive was to improve the Performing Arts facilities in the School. A magnificent new 200-seat theatre was opened in the presence of HRH The Princess Royal on 3 November 2005.

Ogstoun Theatre

This addition to the drama & dance facilities has already had a huge impact on the lives of Gordonstoun students.

"Ogstoun Theatre has completely liberated the work of the Drama and Dance Department and we now have a high quality work, rehearsal and performance space to support the wonderful work that the students have been achieving over the past years.

Lessons, activities and productions have ensured that the building is in total use all days and well in to the night. It is now a vital and integral part of the way the department works and we could not imagine a life without it".

Gordonstoun Drama students received standing ovations for their performances of Les Miserables in the Ogstoun Theatre in 2009. Audiences were enthralled by the talent, creativity, dedication and professionalism of the students involved.

Impact of the Tennant Room on the Music Department
by Lucy Wormald, Year 13 Windmill

The Tennant Room and its recording studio have given the Music Department the much needed space to allow a growing department to flourish. It is such a versatile space that it is in use all day, every day.

This wonderful facility serves as two classrooms that can quickly be changed into one large space for rehearsals, concerts and recitals. The symphony orchestra, chamber orchestra, jazz band, symphonic choir and chamber choir all use the Tennant Room as their rehearsal venue. Open Day and Parents’ Day recitals, lunch time recitals and examination recitals all take place in the Tennant Room.

The well-equipped recording studio is used by students and staff for recording concerts taking place in the Tennant Room, as well as for exam recitals, bands wanting to record their own songs and for budding music technology students. The recent music department CD, Purple, was recorded and produced in this studio. Having our own semi-professional recording facility makes such projects more achievable and cost effective.

We cannot imagine what we did without this wonderful and well-used room!
