Fancy playing golf on some of the oldest and most beautiful courses in the world? Want to develop your game by playing challenging links courses that have tested the best? If your answer to either of these questions is ‘yes' then Golf at Gordonstoun is for you!
Golf is an extremely popular sport at Gordonstoun, and is played in both the Autumn and Summer terms. Students who opt for golf take out a membership at the beautiful Moray golf club – which boasts two 18 hole courses, one of which is a renowned Championship links course. All abilities are catered for from low single figure handicaps to those just starting the game.
Practice takes place during the Spring and Summer terms on two afternoons per week. During the Autumn term practice sessions are available on Saturdays, whilst the team usually completes the season with a small number of matches on the first half of the term. There is the opportunity to have structured lessons with the golf professional at the range and the school also boasts a practice green with links-style bunkers and a driving area on the campus.
The school team consists of eight players, and matches are played regularly against local club sides including Dornoch, Nairn, Fortrose, Forres and Elgin. We also travel further afield to play other schools including Loretto at Craigielaw in Mussleburgh and St Leonard's in St Andrews. On average there is one match a week, but there are also numerous internal matches and the opportunity to play in regional competitions and medal competitions at Moray Golf Club. As well as this, golf tours are arranged each year. Recent tours have taken us to the South of England, South East of Scotland and to Spain twice.
