Dance

Dance at Gordonstoun is offered both within and outside the main curriculum. Activities outside the curriculum include a number of recreational classes and the school's own Dance Company.

GY (Gordonstoun Youth) Dance Company is for students with considerable experience (generally Year 11 and above). GY meets once a week for a contemporary technique class, and then spends periods of time in rehearsal for shows and occasional tours; most recent include a tour of South Africa with the Music Department and a performance at The MacRobert Centre in Stirling as part of a Showcase of Scottish Youth Dance.

Commercial Jazz Dance  is a fun class for senior students who want to try something a little more urban  - it is a mix of street dance with jazz dance.

Ballet classes are recreational classes only; they do not lead to examination, but they do cater for those who want to keep up with their Ballet. Two levels are on offer - Beginners and Intermediate.

Year 9/10 Dance Club provides Year 9 and 10 students an opportunity to dance outside of the curriculum and perform in the annual dance show.

Performances

There are usually two to three dance shows a year. The annual showcase, "Lets Dance," takes place every February and includes work from Year 9 through to 13. Smaller performances of GCSE and AS level exam work take place at other times in the year.

Occasional workshops take place with visiting dance teachers and dance companies. In the past these have included Breakdance, Salsa and Contemporary. Recent companies include Scottish Ballet, Rambert Dance Company, David Hughes, Scottish Dance Theatre, Motionhouse, RJC.

Theatre visits

Students have the opportunity to visit the theatre locally and on occasional trips away.

Recent trips have included Scottish Ballet, Rambert Dance Company, Balletboyz, Jasmin Vardimon and the musical Chicago.
