Leaving a Legacy – The Gift of a Lifetime
Deciding to leave a gift to the School in your will is a very important step. For most people, a legacy is the greatest gift that they can make – it is not only the gift of an education, but a gift of a lifetime.
"What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others." Pericles.
Every Gift Makes a Difference and Every Choice is Personal
Legacy gifts, irrespective of amount, can provide support to the School as a whole through:
• The continued provision of excellent standards of teaching and facilities for future pupils
• The provision of bursaries to bright and talented to pupils, who without financial assistance would not otherwise be able to attend the School.
‘We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.’
Sir Winston Churchill
We recognise that you may wish to specify how your legacy will be used. You may choose to support a specific area of School life which reflects what has been important to you through your own life be that sport, music or any area of academic study.
The choice to give, be it a legacy or by other means, must come from within us. Thought and discussion must take place and the right decision for each individual reached. We have all undoubtedly benefitted from the generosity of previous benefactors and I know that OG’s I meet are keen to see that the School flourishes and continues to be a world leader in education.
Benefaction is, and should be, a continuing process. It will come as no surprise that schools such as ours are reliant upon the support of endowments. Gordonstoun, however, does not have the endowment cushion necessary to achieve all our aspirations.
By leaving a legacy to Gordonstoun, you will be helping to ensure that our Founder’s vision can continue to benefit future generations of Gordonstoun students.
There can be few other schools, if any, that offer the unique education that we do in such beautiful surroundings, and Gordonstoun remains fully committed to the ethos driven education that so many of you have enjoyed and benefitted from.
The School recognises its gratitude to those who leave Gordonstoun a gift by inviting them to join The Kurt Hahn Foundation. Members of this legacy society and their partners are invited as VIP guests to prominent School events and exclusive annual lunches.
If you would like to consider leaving a gift in your will to the School, we would be pleased to discuss your plans with you. We would like to assure you that this does not commit you in any way and that all discussions, of course, are completely confidential.
Andrew Lyall, Duffus 1988
‘There is more to us than we know. If we can be made to see it, perhaps for the rest of our lives we will be unwilling to settle for less.’
Kurt Hahn CBE, 1886-1974
