This week saw the final round of the Moray Junior Sec Schools League on Thursday, where the Year 9/10 team were awarded thord place out of 6 schools so a great achievement. Also on Thursday, the U15As played in their semi-final match of the Scottish Cup against High School of Dundee. They displayed some high quality netball, coming out with a 24-13 victory, putting them through to the Scottish Cup Finals! Our Senior 1st VII played in the Highland and Moray League against Fyrish Blue ladies team, also winning with an excellent score of 57-24. On Monday, the U11 squad played their first match of the Primary School’s league, winning 15-5 against Forres ASG. All teams this week displayed excellent teamwork and high quality skills, showing their hard work during training!
This week, Gordonstoun’s Junior and Senior netball teams focused their training on two fixtures. Gordonstoun hosted a local junior netball tournament for Round 2 of the Moray Secondary Schools Netball League. Schools entered were Forres, Elgin High, Lossiemouth HS, Milnes HS and Buckie HS. IT was great to get so many local schools competing. Currently Gordonstoun are sitting 2nd in the league as of Round 1 league standings which is a great achievement (round 2 results have not been published yet). At the weekend, the Senior 1st VII team took on Inverness 1, who were last year’s winners of the Highland and Moray Adult Netball League. A closely fought game with fast attacks and committed defence from both teams showed some high quality play. The end result was a 54-41 win to Inverness 1, however the score is much higher than that of last year for Gordonstoun which is testament to the girls’ hard work so far this season.
This week has started off with Scottish cup fixtures for our U13A and U14A teams against Edinburgh Academy and Gryffe High School, respectively. The U13A squad got off to a steady start and showed tremendous teamwork throughout the match, and their success rate grew nearer the final whistle, despite not winning in the end. The U14A team had a very close, competitive match against Gryffe HS where scores were tied until the last quarter. The U14As fought hard with consistent control, fast transitions and get team morale and support which should be commended, as should their win of 19-17.
For the rest of the week, our mixed Junior U14/15 team will be competing in the Moray Sec Schools Junior League and our Senior 1st VII will take on Inverness in the Highland League. Good luck to them for their next matches!
A busy weekend for Gordonstoun netball started off with U15A v Grantown Grammar (17-30). With some new additions to the team from our exchange programme the team gradually started to gel and by the end had some fast attacks and great communication.
Next we had a block fixture against Strathallan school with over 60 Gordonstoun girls playing netball which was great to see. The scores from these competitive matches were as follows:
1st VII 37 - 21
2nd VII 14 - 21
U15A 42 - 19
U15B 46 - 1
U14A 23 - 7
U14B 15 - 7
Although a mixed set of results, there were some very strong performances, and particular congratulations were given to our 2nd VII who took the win.
