Gordonstoun Pioneers and Pioneering
Out now and selling fast; "Gordonstoun Pioneers and Pioneering”. Foreword by HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
This is the story of that intrepid band of people who kept Gordonstoun going through the 1930s, against all odds. It features the lives of 30 men and women who came to know Kurt Hahn and were persuaded by his novel educational ideas. Many of those ideas have filtered through to all educational establishments, including the need to integrate boarding schools with the locality in which they are situated.
‘This is exactly what has been needed and it definitely does justice to the pioneers’. Sophie Weidlich, née Winthrop-Young (Salem archivist).
‘I think you have conducted very precise research and have done Gordonstoun a great service by bringing those early days alive’. David Sutcliffe (Biographer)
‘It is a great achievement and so wise to have limited it to end in 1940 so that it is detailed and very intense’. Hilary Tunstall-Behrens (Pupil in late 1930s)
‘I have long hoped that one day such a book would be written’. Jim Graham (TAS Australia)
The book costs £15 plus p&p. Payable to Gordonstoun School, profits to a Scottish bursary fund.
