Start of Term Round-up
For the boys of Duffus House, it was a particularly exciting return to school as they came back to a brand new house, located near the top of the campus, purpose-built to meet the needs of 60 boys living in a boarding environment. Word from the House is that the boys are enjoying being in their new home.
Year 12 and 13 students were into exams just a few days after the return to school - Year 12 have now finished theirs but Year 13 will continue until Saturday. During a Biology class Miss Dickinson introduced her Year 9 students to their internal digestive organs which they drew onto aprons and in Year 9 Geography, two groups headed out on field trips to Johnstons of Elgin as part of their current study into Globalisation. They learned about how Johnston's export their products all over the world and and have created a unique Scottish brand. Next week other Year 9 groups will be visiting Walkers and Glenfiddich.
Lunchtime concerts are back in the South Room this week featuring GCSE music compositions by Annabel J and Jenny McN. Annabel performed her own piece and Jenny's was performed by our Musician in Residence Mr Tom Harvey with Alastair C on violin. Dr Jenkins accompanied both pieces and played one of his own. Also in the South Room were students from Year 10 taking part in a Mindfulness session run by Margot Henderson (a local practioner). Over the next couple of weeks she will take them through various exercises to help clear the mind and focus on the 'now'. This can help with teenage stress and anxiety symptoms and can be extremely useful in the run up to examsl
Although we have had a light fall of snow, it has now all disappeared and the Outdoor Education department is keeping fingers crossed for a decent fall in the mountains so that this term's skiing and winter skills expeditions can get out at the weekend - it's not looking too hopeful for them at the moment though!
