Spring Term 2017

Marines Visit

On Tuesday 32 students were introduced to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines by eight serving members of the armed forces. Six Navy personnel and two Royal Marines travelled up from Edinburgh to lead an action-packed 2 ½ hours of activities.

Waiting for instructions

Captain Ben Pinches from 45 Commando introduced the Navy and Marines with short videos and described the training he underwent as well as details of his deployments over the last eight years. This was followed by an active session of command and team skills tasks led by the Navy. This included both physical and mental challenges, but required a focused and communal approach. The afternoon was finished off with one hour of physical activity led by a Royal Marine physical training instructor.

Many students have shown an interest in the forces, both the Navy and Marines, as well as the Army and Air Force, and we were very grateful for the time and effort the team put into the afternoon.  We hope to organise another visit with more activites in November.
