Autumn Term 2017

Exam Results

It has been an excellent year for A Level students at Gordonstoun with 90% of applicants leaving for a university of their choice - and 75% of these their first choice. Our students are going to a range of universities including Durham, University College London, Manchester, Exeter, Newcastle, Leeds and Glasgow. It is not surprising, given our international outlook that many have chosen to continue their studies abroad with seven students going to the USA, and others to countries including Canada, Holland, Spain and Switzerland.

The Class of 2017 are leaving to study the usual diverse range of subjects from aerospace engineering to philosophy and linguistics, and from classics to neuroscience. One student has been awarded a scholarship to study at the prestigious American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

At A Level, 44.9% of Gordonstoun students achieved at least one A* or A grade and six students passed all their examinations with an A* or A. Of those who studied with us at GCSE (for whom we have more reliable baseline data) 80.2% met or exceeded their baseline predictions.

We wish them every success and look forward to hearing about their next adventures.

This is a transition year for AS examinations. However, a pleasing set of results show that solid foundations have been laid for success at A Level.

It was also a stellar year for our GCSE students with a third of the entries achieving the highest grades of A*or A. We are extremely pleased with the results for the new mathematics and English courses with 40% of the mathematics and 38% of the English Literature entries graded 7 to 9.
