News from the Junior School - Week 6
Neil Wylie Concert
On Thursday evening we were treated to some fantastic performances in the Neil Wylie Memorial Concert with some wonderful group pieces and superb solos. The audience listened to a great variety of adventurous music culminating in a grand finale of Worksite, by the Concert Band! Very well done to the children, Mr Csenki and the music staff and thank you to all the parents and guests who came along to support.
Year 8 Leadership Day
On Tuesday, Year 8 had their Leadership training organised by the Outdoor Education department. They were split into four teams and used clues to find various challenges which had been set up around the school grounds. On completing each task they obtained keys, clues and codes which would all be used later to help them unlock their treasure, but you can’t unlock treasure without a treasure chest! On returning to school they then had to complete a bigger task transferring water to gain the co-ordinates for the treasure chest’s locations. Once they managed to open the box they were all rewarded with some treats for their endeavours.
It was a hugely successful morning which helped the children understand the importance of team work, communication, how to lead and how to follow. Thank you to Mr Whitlum and Mr Park for putting the challenge together.
Going Conkers for the 2017 Competition
After half term we will begin our annual conker competition for 2017. On Monday morning, Mr McVean showed the children the fantastic trophy on offer to the victor and sign up sheets were passed around to form teachers. A copy of the rules have been up on the school whiteboard this week and everyone has sworn the conker oath. If you get a chance to help your child prepare their conker during half term we would be very grateful so we can begin straight after the break.
