News from the Junior School - Week 14

A Treat at Chapel Service

Year 2/3 perform during Chapel Service   Year 2/3 perform during Chapel Service

Last Friday during Chapel, we were lucky enough to be treated to three performances by Year 2/3, by the Junior Choir and by the Junior String Group. All three of the performances were fantastic and received a rousing applause from the audience who thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Well done to all of the musicians.

Year 2/3 Pen Pals

Year 2/3 penpals

Last week, Year 2/3 were building their international connections by penning letters to their pen-pals in Bishop Mackenzie International School in Malawi. Mrs Csenki organised the project with the school to offer her class the opportunity to speak with children on the other side of the globe. Fantastic!

Green Group Not Wasting Time

Have you ever asked yourself, what am I doing to make a difference? Thankfully, our Green Group regularly make such self-assessments and they decided they could be doing more to reduce the School's food waste! As such they have been working with Mrs Broadhurst, the School’s catering manager, to collect the food waste on both sides of the refectory to weigh it and collect data on our current ‘leftovers’. They hope to have results for us soon, which may help show how much we are wasting and encourage us to throw ‘less in the trash, saving some cash!’ Some people talk about change, others make it. Good job, Green Group!

A Special Assembly

Service, Internationalism, Responsibility,  Challenge: the four Pillars of Gordonstoun. It’s fair to say all of these were achieved on the Kenya Project, which was a new service opportunity run in the Senior School last year. On Friday, Brodie and Cameron from Year 13 came to the Junior School to talk about what they did in their project, inspiring the children to be of service to others and explaining the importance of what you learn from these opportunities. Good luck to Brodie, who is planning on studying Geography at university next year, and to Cameron, who is applying for a degree in Finance and Accounting.
