Spring Term 2018

Inter-House Cross-Country Relays

The start of the race

In the recent inter-House cross-country relay race 33 teams (132 teenagers) ran in a challenging event on a particularly cold afternoon, demonstrating great determination, tenacity and commitment to compete representing their houses effectively. There were also 30 recorders who did a great job and were assiduous in their efforts to ensure accurate results at the end. There were also 22 combined services representatives acting as Race Marshalls and eight members of the First Aid service also on duty. Almost half of the school (192 students) were actively involved all afternoon which speaks volumes for their ability to live up to the school motto and display great endurance at the end of a long term - very well done to them.  There were loud and very supportive crowds on the south lawn and elsewhere on the course which the runners will no doubt have appreciated as they made their way through the grounds and, of course, over the always challenging “Dead Dogs Hill”.

In addition two staff teams competed - well done to them - and there were a number of colleagues who helped on the course and at the start finish area. The event could not have happened without their assistance so a huge thanks to them as well. There was also an unrecorded ladies staff team who completed the course with two dogs in tow - well done to them and to Mr Wilson who completed 2 laps all by himself quote ”because it is there”…

It was a fun yet challenging event and congratulations on a fantastic effort to all of those actively involved in the competition.
