On Saturday evening the whole School celebrated Burns’ Night with a traditional supper and ceilidh.
The piping in of the haggis was a new sight for several students as we currently have a large number of exchange students with us from all over the world. Various speeches were made, followed by a rousing rendition of Auld Lang Syne, before everyone headed up to the sports centre for an evening of reels. To see over 300 students of all ages from 8-18 Stripping the Willow and doing the Gay Gordons was a real sight, and everyone had a fabulous, if exhausting, couple of hours!
The feedback from those who had never attended such an event was that it was one of the best evenings they have had since their arrival, and they now understand a little more about the high esteem in which Robbie Burns is held in his native country.
