News from the Junior School - Week 10
Scottish Schools' Pipe Band Championships
Last Sunday, the Gordonstoun Pipe Band travelled to Edinburgh to compete in the Scottish Pipe Band Championships. Representing the Junior School in this year’s band was Pipe Drummer Owen M. The band played superbly and finished third in the Traditional Category and a stunning second in the Freestyle against some incredibly tough competition.
Huge congratulations to everyone involved and a special mention to Owen for his brilliant efforts representing the Junior School. Also a big thank you to Mr Oliphant, Mr Niven and Mr Csenki for their organisation, preparation and teaching of the band.
The Junior School Sports Tour
Last Thursday, the Junior School Sports Tour departed for Edinburgh to begin their long weekend of fixtures and fun. The children played games of rugby and hockey against Belhaven Hill, Fettes Prep and Strathallan. They played incredibly well in all of the fixtures, competing in some tough conditions, following the recent inclement weather. In amongst all of the sporting commitments, they still had time for some additional fun with trips to Dynamic Earth, a Ghost Tour around Edinburgh, swimming, bowling, shopping and visit to the National Museum of Scotland. As I am sure you can imagine this was hungry work so, thankfully, visits to Toby Carvery, Nando’s and Pizza Hut kept the children going!
Thank you to all the staff who assisted with the tour and the parents/grandparents who went to support at some of the fixtures. Great job everyone and huge thank you to Mr Duffy for organising the tour and to the Torridon Hotel for their generous sponsorship.
Magnificent Music Concert
On Friday 9 March, in Chapel, we were treated to a wonderful concert by some of our Junior Bands and solo performers. The show was incredibly entertaining and a real treat for all of the parents, staff and children who weren’t on Sports Tour. Thank you to the Music Department for putting the show together and to the children who performed so brilliantly in the concert!
