Report by Mr Morton, Head of PE
The inter-House Triathlon represents all that is best about the Gordonstoun curriculum; individual endeavour - living up to the school motto in full - , superb support, co-operation and team work from all in the face of challenge, an abundance of volunteers giving of themselves in the service of others and individual and collective responsibility to ensure a job well done. There was a very positive atmosphere throughout with unstinting support for all competitors regardless of House allegiance which has become a feature of this particular inter-House event.
There were two events, a team relay event and an individual triathlon. The swim is just short of 500m, the cycle component 6000m and the running approximately 3500m, a significant challenge for all.
Today’s efforts led to the following results:
1st - Ian (Cumming) 1st Senior Boy in 46:15
2nd - Max K (Cumming) in 47:44
3rd - Jonas B (Cumming) 1st Junior Boy in 49:21
4th - Charlie O (Round Square) in 52:28
5th - Nanouri W (Hopeman) 1st Senior Girl in 53:02
6th - Constantine F (Duffus) in 53:07
7th - Joshua F (Duffus) in 55:18
8th William G (Cumming) in 55:25
9th - Greg I (Round Square) in 72:19
In the team relay event the winners of the Junior Girls' race were the Windmill 1 team, followed by Plewlands in second place. For the Junior boys the Cumming 1 team took honours (and was also the first overall student team) with Duffus in second place and Bruce in third. It was a race to the finish for the Windmill 1 and 2 teams in the Senior Girls competition with Windmill 2 pipping Windmill 1 to the post by just 0.04sec and Bruce took first place in the Senior Boys with G-House coming in second. A staff team of Mr Baird, Mr Harvey and Mr Voller completed the course in a very respectable tiime of 36:25.
Sincere thanks go to everyone involved in the successful running of this event - competitors, lifeguards, First Aid and the Outdoor Service and, of course, the staff without whom the event would not happen.
