News from the Junior School - Week 8
This week, Year 4 visited the Founder’s Room on the anniversary of Kurt Hahn’s birthday. The room was created with the philosophy of the school’s founder, Kurt Hahn, in mind. Kurt Hahn’s influence is still evident in many elements of Gordonstoun life and one of his core beliefs was to allow the children to have periods of rest during the day. The teachers of the Junior School build breaks into their days often making use of the Founders’ room, allowing the children a chance to rest and reflect on their day either by laying quietly or reading. The peaceful atmosphere certainly helps re-energise the mind for the remainder of the day.
Highland Wildlife Park
Last Sunday, the Junior School boarders went on a trip to the Highland Wildlife Park near Kingussie. It was a lovely day spent visiting the park to see all of the different species of animals and meeting the first polar bear cub born in the UK for 25 years! The day concluded with some nice cold drinks and ice-cream. What a superb day out, thanks to Mrs Piper for organising the day and Mr Richards for joining us!
With many of the Junior School expeditions heading out on Tuesday (and the remainder heading out just one week later), children are getting their kit ready for expeditions. Fingers crossed for good weather as the children take to the hills, lochs, rivers and trails in the fine wilderness of Scotland.
