Gold Duke of Edinburgh Expedition
Four Year 13 students headed for the Isle of Mull shortly before the end of term to carry out their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition. Enjoying exceptionally hot and dry condition sthroughout the trip, the four young people started off with a ferry ride over to Mull where they spent the first night in a campsite near Tobermory.
Setting off the following morning, they then spent the next four days (three nights) wild camping on the island. The group were self-sufficient although the plan to top up with water from mountain streams was problematic because the streams were low due to the hot, dry conditions and the water quality was uncertain, requiring re-supply by the supervising staff. The route was challenging but the scenery was marvellous and the group had a mostly enjoyable expeditiion which ended with a de-brief with the supervising staff on board the ferry back to Kilchoan.
