At the weekend over fifty new Year 11 and new Year 12 students participated in their first curriculum expedition at Gordonstoun. After final preparations on Friday afternoon, all groups departed school and embarked upon their chosen routes in the Cairngorms and Monadliaths. Poor weather conditions had been predicting for the Saturday evening/Sunday morning period so many thought they knew what to expect. However, the ferocity of the wind for those camped at higher elevations made for an adventurous experience. All the groups encountered their fair share of blustery and rainy conditions, nevertheless they all coped admirably. The aim of the weekend was to provide training in various expedition skills, including: campcraft and cooking, navigation and a responsible leave no trace approach. Students produced fine displays of excellent cooperation with a large amount of tenacity thrown in for good measure. It was a fitting way to bring to a close Gordonstoun’s 2018 curriculum expedition season.
