Sad news of staff member Steve Potter - Biology Teacher and AHM of Gordonstoun House
The whole Gordonstoun community was deeply shocked and profoundly saddened to learn of the death of Steve Potter in a road accident on Friday 22 October at the beginning of the half-term holiday.
Steve joined the staff at Gordonstoun in 2006 as a mature teacher from Shaw House High School in Yorkshire. An extremely experienced Biology teacher he had already been a Chief or Principal Examiner at A level for twenty years. He was extremely highly regarded in both state and independent sectors of education.
Steve therefore brought vast experience to the Biology Department at Gordonstoun. He was a superb teacher, successful with all levels of ability and aptitude. He had a wonderfully natural and easy style of communication with young people who responded positively to his personality and his teaching. This same honest and modest facility for dealing with and looking after students was apparent also in all Steve’s other responsibilities in the School. He was a tirelessly caring and effective Assistant Housemaster in Gordonstoun House where he formed a strong partnership with Stephen Kirkwood. He earned the total respect of the boys there and this high regard extended to all members of the Conservation Service, which thrived under his guidance.
Steve Potter had become a pillar of the Gordonstoun community and a true friend to everyone with whom he came into contact. He will be acutely missed by us all and our thoughts and prayers are extended to his family at these difficult time.
There will be a Service of Thanksgiving for the life of Steve Potter in St Christopher’s at 3.30pm on Thursday 4 November. Anyone who knew Steve is welcome to attend.
