Outdoor Education

It is a big world out there, and we know that our students learn best through a great variety of outdoor experiences which broaden their skills, strengths and minds.

Outdoor activity is integral to Gordonstoun life and has three main elements – expeditions, sail training and adventure activities - all designed to help our students develop new knowledge and skills, react to challenge and learn about themselves and their classmates. We take advantage of the stunning Scottish landscape on our doorstep, and students might try kayaking, mountain biking, orienteering or skiing; or they can try their hand at bushcraft, wilderness survival skills or surfing off the Moray coast’s magnificent beaches.

These adventures are all geared up to helping our students develop self-awareness, resilience, sound decision-making and responsibility for their actions. They develop teamworking skills and crucially, an awareness and consideration of the environment around them. If they want, students can work towards the Duke of Edinburgh Silver and Gold Awards while here.

All expeditions and adventure activities are led or instructed by qualified and experienced staff. Gordonstoun takes safety very seriously and strives to set the highest possible standards within the outdoor and adventure activity industry.
