Senior School

The Senior School represents Years 9 to 13 (ages 13-18). There are 450 students in this part of the School and they come from many different backgrounds, cultures and nationalities. With one third of students from Scotland, one third from the rest of the UK and one third from 40 different countries, this makes for an extremely interesting and diverse community.

Gordonstoun is one of the few remaining genuinely full-boarding schools in the UK and nearly 90% of students in the Senior School are full boarders. This ensures that a full programme of activities is offered throughout weekends and leave-out weekends.  Day pupils are welcome to, and indeed most do,  join in with weekend activities.

At Gordonstoun everyone is special. We believe passionately in educating the whole child spiritually, emotionally, socially, intellectually and physically. Our philosophy has been to strive to develop young men and women equipped to enter the world with a passion for life, knowing what they believe and why, and tolerant of the ideals of others. Their education should lead them to know their place in wider society as an international citizen, having had the opportunities to develop character, resilience and tenacity through challenge. It is with these thoughts in mind that we have developed an exciting, diverse and well-balanced curriculum

In addition to following GCSE and Advanced Level academic studies, our students will also experience Outdoor EducationService to the Community, Sport, Performing Arts, International and Spiritual Citizenship and Cultural commitments as part of their rich diet of study.

In the recent HMIe report (June 09) Gordonstoun was awarded a grade of ‘excellent’, the highest award possible, for both its curriculum programme and for the learning experience on offer to students.
