A very special curriculum
At Gordonstoun we aim to educate and develop the whole person through a wide range of learning mediums that are both stimulating and challenging. We believe students should be equipped to cope with life in the twenty-first century and have the skills to adapt to an ever changing world. Education should develop the mind, body, and person and advance understanding. By acquiring knowledge and skills, girls and boys should come to appreciate the joy of learning and thrill of success. It is with these thoughts in mind that we have developed an exciting and well balanced curriculum. Students are exposed to, and encouraged to, pursue a diverse programme.
In addition to following GCSE and Advanced Level academic studies, our students will also experience Outdoor Education, Service to the Community, Sport, International Citizenship and Cultural commitments as part of their rich diet of study.
In the recent HMIe report (June 09) Gordonstoun was awarded a grade of, ‘excellent’, the highest award possible, for both its curriculum programme and for the learning experience on offer to students.

Academic
At Gordonstoun we aim to produce young men and women of independent judgement who can express themselves articulately in speech and clearly on paper. Our academic structure is one where students study courses which lead to GCSE and Advanced level public examinations.
We aim to develop high standards in all aspects of our teaching and learning programme, leading to superior levels of student achievement. In the Senior School, standards in class work are high and young people perform strongly in external exams. At A’ level almost all presentations lead to at least a pass with, on average, over half of these being A or B grades.
Nearly our entire student 6th Form population leave Gordonstoun to follow a degree course at their chosen university, including Oxford and Cambridge.
The quality of a student’s learning experience is high with a strong base of well qualified teaching staff. Staff review and adapt classroom activities regularly to meet an individual learner’s needs so as to support them sensitively and effectively.
Grading and Reports
We operate comprehensive systems of grading and reports, which are shared with parents on a regular basis, through both written correspondence and staff/parent consultations.
In addition, students are tracked and carefully monitored in all their subjects on a regular basis in order to help teaching staff give the best advice and guidance to individual students.
