Year 9

Lesson Content:

1.1. Culture. Cultural influences on our lives, The role of the individual. Moral Dilemmas.

  • Ethos and History of Gordonstoun
  • Health - Diet, Exercise, Healthy mind and body.
  • Civics - Politics and the ethics of power. Human rights. The legal system.
  • Communications - Friendships, peer pressure, nuclear and extended families, letter writing, bereavement, assertiveness. The ‘I' others see.

Activity Content:

  • Media Literacy - How to read the messages hidden in the world's media
  • Youth Issues - Young people and the law, self esteem and avoiding temptation
  • My International Home - Sharing students' backgrounds with their peer group
  • Food for Thought - International Cookery
  • World Music - Exploring and recognising music from across the globe
  • Environmental Design - Exploring recycling and eco-friendly design

Year 10

In Year 10 we see the development of the International and Spiritual Citizenship Programme. The students continue work on cultural and social issues, communication and civics.  There is an increasing focus on practical skills, including self-protection and an awareness of Service. Students in Year 10 are also challenged to discover and develop their spiritual understanding.  We are fortunate to have the visit of many exchange students in Year 10 and we are able to use their differing international backgrounds to further inform and inspire our work on citizenship.  During the year students are involved in a series of International and Spiritual Citizenship/Service opportunities to further develop their understanding of and their involvement in the Round Square movement.
