Higher Education

The Higher Education office gives advice and guidance to students throughout their school career on:

University Applications

The careers office has a well stocked careers library and is visited on a regular basis by the Armed Forces careers liaison service as well as home and overseas universities.

Each year students are advised to complete a Course Finder questionnaire and based on the criteria set by each student, this sets out a recommended list of academic courses and establishments. This information is then used as the springboard for considering UCAS applications.

We produce our own guide on how to write a personal statement and this is issued to all Year 12 students in advance of their registration with UCAS.

Gordonstoun hosts the UCAS Convention for Moray in September which is attended by the leading Scottish universities, as well as colleges and universities from south of the border, the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS), the Armed Forces, Careers Scotland and GAP year organisations. For further information please visit the UCAS events website: www.ucasevents.com/morayshireexhibitors

The number of students who progress to university at home or overseas is 96%. Useful web sites students may wish to consult are the UCAS - www.ucas.com and the ISCO website www.isco.org.uk

SAT Examinations

Mrs Cox, the Higher Education Co-ordinator is the SAT examiner for American university entrance and the School is open for three SAT examinations per year.

Careers Testing Programme

We administer a careers testing programme for all year 11 students on behalf of the Cambridge Occupational Analysis organisation. Results are forwarded to parents so a selection of A-levels can be made.

Interview Training

We arrange mock interviews with a trained interviewer for Oxford, Cambridge, Medical and Dental schools. Universities from all over the UK are regularly invited to visit the School as well  former ssudents, who are invited to give talks on their career progression since leaving Gordonstoun.

GAP Placements

We also arrange presentations by GAP year organisations and provide advice and information on appropriate GAP placements.
