The majority of Gordonstoun students take 3 main subjects (these lead to a full A level after two years of study) and one minor subject (these subjects only go to AS level and are completed in 4 or 6 terms depending upon examination opportunities).  Those subjects marked with an * can only be done as minor subjects.

Lightened programmes can also be arranged if viewed as appropriate.

  • Students with strong mathematics skills can take an A-level in Further Mathematics
  • Some subjects will be available as A2s only if enough students wish to pursue them. We shall decide this before the start of Year 12 and are happy at any time to discuss the availability of subjects.
  • We aim to offer the maximum number of combinations of subjects, but cannot guarantee every combination.

Students whose first language is not English

These students may take their home language as a fourth A-level.

We encourage students with English as a second language to seek advice about the level of support they may need to study A-levels.
