The Arts

Gordonstoun has a tradition of encouraging all students to become involved in the arts. In terms of self expression, self awareness, attainment and interpersonal skills, the arts are central to the School's holistic ideals.

Music and Drama provide the life and body for the health and vitality of the whole community. The dramatic life of the School is a continuously evolving process of experience. There are school productions staged in various locations but performances are also presented by houses, year groups or other smaller units. The emphasis is on participation, teamwork, personal development and quality, particularly when Drama links with Music to stage one of the musicals which are a special Gordonstoun strength.

Gordonstoun is the only school in Scotland where Dance is taught as part of the academic, examinable curriculum and results are of a very high order. There are many other opportunities for students to experience and enjoy dance in various forms which may develop into performance items or exist purely for recreational purposes.

The School has a strong record of students entering Art Colleges. The work achieved in the Art Department in both two and three dimensions, and in computer graphics and television, is of a very high order.

In Design Technology excellent facilities and an imaginative, disciplined approach ensure original and sophisticated results in metal, wood, silver and plastics. The Department has been successful in winning several prestigious awards.
