Dance at Gordonstoun

Dance

Dance at Gordonstoun is offered both within and outside the main curriculum. Outside of the curriculum there are two dance companies, and a number of recreational classes.

GY (Gordonstoun Youth) Dance Company is for students with considerable experience (generally Year 11 and above). GY meets once a week for a contemporary technique class, and then spends periods of time in rehearsal for shows and occasional tours.

The Community Dance Company comes under The Community Service and gives students the opportunity to perform and take part in workshops in local primary schools.

Senior Dance is a fun class for Yr 11 and above. Each term we focus on a different dance style.

Ballet classes take place once a week.

Junior Dance Club provides Year 9 students an opportunity to dance outside of the curriculum. The club generally works towards one of the twice yearly dance shows.

Performances

There are usually two to three dance shows a year, these will include GCSE and A level exam work, as well as work coming out of both dance companies and the recreational dance classes.

Visiting teachers

Occasional workshops take place with visiting dance teachers and dance companies.

In 2006 these have included Breakdance and Salsa. Visits from companies include Scottish Dance Theatre, Motionhouse, RJC.
