Something Wicked

Year 10 Drama Production

Open Weekend saw thirty-five Year Ten Drama students perform Something Wicked… a play adapted from the Ray Bradbury novel which tells the story of the impact on a small mid-western town when a strange carnival comes to visit.

Under the imaginative and enthusiastic direction of Drama teacher Laura Parker, the students created a world of mystery and darkness where the dark circus searched the town looking for lost souls to devour. All seemed hopeless until the power of love and goodness saved the day.

-    -

The ensemble performance was truly impressive and the stylish and confident use of physical theatre showed a very mature response from a young cast to a challenging series of tasks.

-    -    -

It seems almost unfair to name individuals in such a collaborative performance but special mention must go to Emma Thake and Martha Lambert (Windmill) whose energy as Jodie and Katie was entirely infectious. Connor Campbell and Harry Mountain (Round Square) showed a dark and threatening sense of style and Ashrant Bhartia (Cumming) and Emma Jones (Windmill) were confident and completely plausible as Jodie's parents.

In a very short rehearsal period when only on two occasions was the whole company able to be present, this talented group of students created a piece of theatre to be very proud of. They proved to the two full houses that watched their performances that Drama at Gordonstoun is in very safe hands for the foreseeable future.
