Altyre House
Welcome to Altyre House
Within Gordonstoun Altyre House is unique - it is a mixed Sixth Form Boarding house. The original House closed in 2000 and, over the summer of 2002, the new House was re-modelled and refurbished and is now home to 25 male and 16 female students. The social areas are fully integrated but the House has very separate boys and girls sections. Our flat has doors leading to both sections so we really are very much part of the House.
The central area of the House, open to all members, comprises a single Entrance Hall, a large Common Room, a Television Room, a networked Computer Centre, a Kitchen and a Matron's and Tutors' Room. The House Office is also in this area so that we have a base that is right in the centre.
We have been HMs in Altyre since September 2007. Although we both started teaching at Gordonstoun in 1986 we left in 1991 and since then have worked in schools in Malawi, Italy and Scotland. We both see the Sixth Form, international and multi-cultural nature of Altyre as an opportunity and a challenge. In the two years they will spend in Altyre, students have a unique opportunity through sport, social occasions and cultural events to make lasting friendships with students from a diverse range of backgrounds, nationalities and religions.
Miss Louisa Daniell lives within the girls' area in a self-contained flat as Assistant Housemistress. Mr Kevin Martin, Maths Teacher, occupies a similar flat in the boys' area as Assistant Housemaster, when he is on duty. Our Matrons, Mrs Debbie Goldthorp and Mrs Alison Hall, are based in an office in the central area throughout the working day. Mr Steven Carter and Miss Yvonne Windsor come in to act as Tutors during the week.
We are confident that the House will make a strong and significant contribution to the special opportunities that Gordonstoun offers the modern, independent and socially aware young people of today.
