Senior XI vs Lathallan
The senior boys XI took on visitors from Lathallan on Wednesday in the glorious Moray sunshine. Both teams played with great tenacity but it was the home team who triumphed on this occasion - well played to all who took part.

1st XI vs Boroughmuir High School
Last week the 1st XI travelled to Edinburgh to play Boroughmuir High School in the Scottish Schools' Cup quarter final match. Following the long journey to the capital the boys were unable to maintain a high tempo game, “with the bus journey still in their legs”. Boroughmuir also played a very good game and ran out deserved winners 4-0.
Recent fixtures have been cancelled due to the extreme weather conditions. We hope they will recommence shortly.

U15 XI vs Lathallan
On Wednesday the U15 team entertained Lathallan for their second game in two days and, despite their exertions at Strathallan, they proved too strong for Lathallan and ran out 7-1 winners. Well done to all involved.

1st, 2nd, U15 and U14 XIs vs Strathallan
On Tuesday four teams made the long trip to Strathallan to play the annual fixture, this usually involves a competitive and sometimes combative encounter, this year was no different with both teams striving for supremacy with neither willing to give an inch. The Gordonstoun team began brightly with Monday’s victory fresh in their minds, but as the game wore on the toll of two games in two days began to tell and weary legs made hard work in defence. Strathallan pushed and searched for a winning goal but in the end a 1-1 draw was probably a fair result. The Under 15 team similarly fought hard and strived for victory only to be thwarted on every front eventually settling for a 2-2 draw. The 2nd XI and U 14s could not match the power of Strathallan on this occasion.

1st XI vs Hutcheson's Grammar School
On Monday the 1st XI played in the Scottish Schools' cup against visitors from Hutcheson’s Grammar School and, in a game they dominated, and controlled they ran out 5-1 winners to gain a place in the next round where they will play Boroughmuir High School. This is an excellent achievement when it is considered that Monday was virtually the first day that the Astroturf has been playable this term due to snow and ice cover!
30 January 2010
All six boys' Houses participated in a mixed age group hockey competition, on a rare Saturday this term when the Astroturf was not snow bound or frozen over. The boys displayed a very good standard of hockey in all teams and the winners on this occasion were Altyre who overcame all opponents to win comfortably in a very good competition.

A XI vs Aberdeen Grammar School
Report by Oliver Ivey, Year 13
On Saturday a team of very mixed ages was put out to play against Aberdeen Grammar School (AGS). Although the pitch had been almost unusable for the first part of the season, it was finally of a condition which was possible to play on.
The game began at eleven and, due to the group having people with very different levels of experience, it was important for one another to help each other by passing on tips on ways to improve. We had a large number of substitutes so to give everyone a chance to shine these were rolled on and off every 6-8 minutes.
Early on we dominated proceedings and were unlucky to go 1-0 down to a rather scrappy goal. As our dominance was slowly lost through Aberdeen playing some very neat hockey, the game became more free-flowing. Eventually we scored from a well-worked piece of play which slipped John S in one-on-one with the Keeper and was calmly finished. Half time was fast approaching and we had a flurry of short corners which we were unable to convert to scores. Off one of our own short corners Aberdeen worked the ball quickly up the field and scored finishing the half 2-1 up.
We pushed forward in the second half, trying to put some authority and control on a game with most of the time spent in the AGS half. However, when they got control of the ball they moved it about swiftly and were able to take advantage of our not-so-organised defence. We created many chances but our finishing was far from clinical.
As we carried on pushing forward looking for an equaliser AGS scored two goals in quick succession. This was a killer blow as the scoreline seemed very unfair after all our hard work. We managed to get a goal back quickly when Fredrick V scored and this gave us hope with almost ten minutes left. Aberdeen seemed happy with the score and concentrated on making it difficult for us to get enough of the ball. Then they played a beautiful ball through the heart of the Gordonstoun defence to take away any hope we had. Although the result was now a foregone conclusion, we still pushed forward showing good spirit and, if it weren't for a dreadful shot from Oliver I, who created himself a one-on-one with the keeper, the result would have been a better reflection on a game that was very competitive and played with great sportsmanship.
Final Score: Gordonstoun 2 Aberdeen Grammar School 6

Ist X1, 2nd XI and U15 XI vs Robert Gordon's College, Aberdeen
1st XI report by Captain of Hockey, Folkert Mijnster
Arriving at Robert Gordon's in cold, windy and raining Aberdeen, we stepped off the coach, gathered our stuff together and quickly headed to the changing room to change and discuss how we were going to win the game. We decided that, as it was our first match this season, we would try to have fun and play as a team. Going out in the horrible weather, we did a quick warm-up and started the game. We were the better team in the first half but, undeservedly, went behind 1-0 after a lucky goal from a short corner. If anything, this made the team play even better which resulted in a levelling of the score after a brilliant team play, with quick touches and quick passes. During the break, the referees decided it would be better to cancel the second half as the pitch had became too wet and everyone too cold.
Final Score: Robert Gordon's 1 Gordonstoun 1
The rest of the season is going to be great, and we believe that the team has a huge potential to win a cup this year.
2nd XI report by Philip L, Year 13 Bruce House
The team started in high spirits despite the weather and made an immediate impact on the opposition. However, we failed to hold possession which allowed them to make a break for our goal on a number of occasions. These breaks ultimately led to a short corner and a 1-0 lead to Robert Gordon's. We continued to work hard with great spirit but were unable to gain an equaliser. The match highlighted great potential within the team and gives us hope for a successful season!
Final Score: Robert Gordon's 1 Gordonstoun 0
Under 15 XI report by Innes G, Year 10 Round Square
On Saturday the Under 15 team set off for Robert Gordon's. On arriving there we warmed up in the changing rooms due to the weather. We ran out on to the pitch and started almost instantly. It was very close with neither team gaining the upper hand. Then, about five minutes before half-time, they managed to slip a goal in and about thirty seconds later we also got a goal, in a combined effort by Louis G and Michael P. Both teams continued to battle it out until half-time, where we called it a draw and decided the weather was too bad to continue. For most of the game it was hailing, and for many of us it was the coldest we had ever been, but everybody played with 100% effort till the end.
Final Score: Robert Gordon's 1 Gordonstoun 1
