Cricket is very popular at Gordonstoun and is one of the major summer sports for boys at the school.

Teams:

The school produces strong sides at 1st XI level and can boast an excellent fixture list.

The first XI plays around 16 games a season. This includes all the major independent Schools in Scotland as well as the MCC and XL club. The school also play the old Boys on Open Day as well as entertaining touring side's every season. Several tours have taken place in the recent past including a visit to Barbados and more recently several successful tours to Southern England.

The A XI play every Thursday evening in a 20/20 style format. Fixtures take place against local club sides and teams representing the 2 RAF bases. The A XI play around 10 games a season.

The year 9 and year 10 play around 10 games each a season. These are against Independent Schools, Junior Club sides and touring schools.

Facilities:

The school can boast outstanding Cricket facilities. The 1st XI pitches on the North Lawn are some of the best wickets in Scotland. The outfield is of equally high quality. The school also has impressive practice facilities with lane netting on a separate practice ground, and a mobile net which is used on the cricket squares.

Practice:

The school employs a Cricket Professional.

Pre-season training for all years starts after October half term and runs through to the start of the season.

Players and teams practice throughout the season. The seniors train on a Monday and Thursday, with sessions on Tuesdays and Fridays for individual and team coaching. The juniors train on a Tuesday and Friday. There are also opportunities to train on a Wednesday as well.

In 2006 Gordonstoun School won the XL club award for the best all round cricketing school in the UK. In 2006 the school also boasted the first school boy to score a 1,000 runs in a season in Preston Mommsen.
