2009-2010 Season
Wednesday 12 May
Gordonstoun won the Central League Cup for the first time in over two decades after a thrilling encounder with League Champions Buckie High School. Some attractive football was played by both sides and, with the score standing at 1-1 at full-time, even extra time could not separate them.
The penalty shoot-out saw all ten penalties scored but a save by the Gordonstoun keeper in sudden death kicks gave the school team a 6-5 victory and the trophy.
Saturday 8 May
Gordonstoun's emphatic 4-2 home win over George Herriot's saw the team travel to Stirling for the semi-final of the Scottish Independent Schools' Cup against Jordanhill. The bus journey took its toll with Gordonstoun 2-0 down after 20 minutes. They clawed their way back into the game in the second half but Jordanhill eventually ran out deserved 3-2 winners to win a place in the final at Tynecastle.
Saturday 1 May
The 1st XI remain on course for another visit to the cup final this year with a home victory over George Herriot’s School. Trailing to an early goal, the team played good football to claw their way back into the match going in at half time 2-2. In the second half the home team played more and more assuredly and gained control of the midfield and pressed for the winner which eventually came with the final score of 4-2.
The semi final against Jordanhill College of Glasgow now awaits the team.
20 - 25 March
17 March
League leaders Buckie High were the midweek visitors to Gordonstoun and it was the hosts who came out on top thanks to some fine finishing. All the goals were scored in an exciting first half and, although Buckie were always in the game, Gordonstoun won 5-2.
12 March
Gordonstoun won their final group match of the Scottish Independent Schools’ Cup, beating visitors Robert Gordon’s 2-1 in a tense and exciting game. This result gives them top spot in their section and ensures a home quarter final tie against a qualifier from the Edinburgh or Glasgow area.
6 March
Gordonstoun had a busy week of football, losing both their League games at home to Elgin and Milne’s High Schools. Both were highly entertaining games with 4-3 results. However, they qualified for a Scottish Independent Schools quarter final place with a 2-1 victory at home against Strathallan.
13 February 2010
The 1st XI played Milne’s High School at home on Saturday in the Central League and began the match in a rather “ring rusty“ way, conceding two early goals before finding their feet and getting into stride running out winners 4-2 including a superb hat trick from Youseff A.
28 November
In very wet conditions underfoot and a difficult blustery wind the First XI travelled to Aberlour to play Speyside High School in the Central Schools' League. Neither side was able to dominate in the first half with a score line of 3-3 at half time reflecting the even-ness of the match and the difficult defensive conditions. Speyside began the second half on top scoring first before the Gordonstoun team took a firm grip of the match running out winners 8-4 at the end. Goal scorers included Youssef A with another hat trick, Alex G with 2 along with Bjorn B who also slotted in 2.
13 November
Forres Academy seniors could only muster ten players for their away league match at Gordonstoun and the hosts took full advantage, scoring ten without reply.
7 November
Gordonstoun recorded a resounding 9-1 win in a home League match against Lossiemouth High. The game was played in great spirit with a weakened visitor’s team trying hard until the last minute. There was personal triumph for Alex G who scored five goals.
7 October
The senior boys put a disappointing Scottish Cup exit away to Charleston Adacemy behind them to record two good League wins in four days.
High winds spoiled the game against League leaders Elgin Academy but the team did well to win 2-1. Speyside High were the visitors in midweek and the result was in doubt until late in the game with Gordonstoun eventually winning 4-0.
29 September
The 1st XI played Elgin High at home in their League match, and despite controlling much of the game and creating numerous chances to finish the game off, the home side were never comfortable at 2-1. The visitors kept plugging away right to the final whistle to score two late goals to take a 3-2 victory from the game.
3 September
The team travelled to Forres to play their first match in the Central School League. Despite not having even trained together this year, the Gordonstoun team performed with drive and determination. However, the well drilled Forres team - they have been at school for two weeks already - proved too well organised for the visitors running out 4-2 winners in very testing and wet conditions. The scoreline does offer much hope for the Gordonstoun team this year!
