Corps of Canoe Lifeguards

Corps of Canoe Lifeguards

The Corps of Canoe Lifeguards aim to provide a search capability for rivers and coastlines as well as a rescue capability for water users in general. Individual members aim to become safe, competent paddlers who are proficient in paddling, first-aid and lifesaving basics.

Entrants are usually committed, though not necessarily able canoeists. They train in first aid, lifesaving and kayaking skills, going on to take various British Canoe Union awards, such as the 3 Star Award and the Canoe Safety test. As their skills develop they help coach others in the School and some go on to the Coach Awards for instructing. They are expected to purchase a wetsuit, dry top, wetsuit boots and paddle mitts as most of the training is done in the North Sea!
