Fire Service

Fire

The Gordonstoun Fire Service is a volunteer unit of Grampian Fire Brigade. They have two appliances (fire engines) housed in their own Fire Station. The unit is on call 24 hours a day throughout term time and responds to about 50 calls each year in the local area. To be a member of the Fire Service a student has to intend to be a member of the School for at least two years, be fit and in a good state of health. After two terms of training a student will take a (mainly) practical test to qualify as a fire-fighter. Fire-fighters are organised in three watches that are on call one week in three.

The Fire Service also has a few non-operational personnel who undertake some training but do not have to meet the medical and fitness standards of the fire-fighters. They have an important role in manning the watchroom during call-outs and helping with the administration of the Station. Being a member of the Gordonstoun Fire Service is a unique opportunity to be part of a very real emergency service. Its members will learn new and useful skills and become effective team members. The work can be exciting at times but a good deal of training, maintenance and time is involved. The Fire Service needs students who are responsible, dependable and keen to demonstrate a high degree of commitment.
