Pool Lifeguards

Lifeguards

The aim of the Pool Lifeguards Service is to train and fully qualify its members in accordance with the Royal Life Saving Society.

Anyone who enjoys the swimming pool environment and is willing to provide an essential service to the community will surely benefit from the Pool Lifeguard Service. Some people think that only very strong swimmers can become Lifeguards, but this is not true. You need to be able to swim but it is the skills you learn during the course combined with fitness training that makes you an expert.

The students are trained in the School facilities by qualified Trainers/Assessors. The programme consists of 32 hours of theoretical and practical lessons. These lessons include a variety of information from why lifeguards need to be trained to how to perform CPR. The assessment is completed by an outside assessor who verifies the student's skills.

Once members are fully qualified they start providing service to the School community. They have weekly duties life guarding during sessions such as free swim, club swim and kiddies swim. Their work is essential to the running of our swimming pool.

This qualification also enables our students to apply for jobs within the UK as soon as they pass the assessment.
