Ski Patrol

Nordic Ski Patrol

The Nordic Ski Patrol aims to provide three main services to the community:

  1. To assist with and to further the development of skiing in Scotland via the clearing, marking, preparation and tidying of ski trails locally and particularly in Clashindarroch Forest.
  2. To act as officials, guides and first aiders at ski races held in the area.
  3. To prepare for and maintain a search and rescue function specialising in high level forested terrain.

The Service trains young skiers to a high level of proficiency on both the artificial track at Huntly and on roller skis before the arrival of the snow. Trail preparation and marking is conducted throughout the Autumn, together with a clear-up during the post season thaw.

Towards the end of their time in the Service, each candidate would, hopefully, be of a standard to be considered for the British Association of Ski Instructors' Examination, to have had the opportunity to go on a British Ski Federation Officials' Course as well as having taken high level First Aid Examinations under the guidance of the British Association of Ski Patrollers.

The Service provides all fundamental equipment but members need to have their own overtrousers, wind-proof jacket, hats and gloves.
