Taster Weekend

Each year in August we host a weekend at Gordonstoun for children currently in Years 6 or 7 (age 11 or 12) and their parents who are interested in entry into Year 9 in 2019 or 2020.

The weekend for Autumn 2019 or 2020 entry will take place Friday-Sunday, 24-26 August 2018.

Why you should come to see us?

It's a wonderful opportunity for you to see what it means to be part of Gordonstoun.

It will give you a clear picture, as you go into your final year at your current school, of what your objective is and of what lies in store.

It will also give you focus and motivation.

And when you do join us, you'll have the added confidence of knowing your way around, of recognising members of staff, of being with people you've already met.

Who's the weekend for?

It's open to:

What will you see and do?

You will have a chance to see what life is like at Gordonstoun. You will spend the weekend in one of our boarding houses and use the full range of Gordonstoun's facilities, see something of the surrounding countryside and generally get to know us.

The programme for the weekend will include:

Above all, we hope you will thoroughly enjoy yourself.

This will be the last weekend of our summer holiday, so all School services will be up and running.

We shall ensure that there are plenty of our present students here to help us organise the weekend, and to give a proper feeling of the School in session.

Some comments from pupils who attended previous weekends:

"The weekend was action-packed and I loved every minute of it"

"It is good to have this weekend to make friends before starting school".

"Canoeing in the pool was my absolute favourite activity"

"I hope that being a student at Gordonstoun is as good as this weekend"

How to get here

If you are flying to Scotland we shall be happy to meet you at Aberdeen or Inverness Airport. (Remember, of course, to let us know when you're due to arrive!)

Apart from the cost of your travel, there should be no further costs during your stay with us.

To find out how to get to Gordonstoun and see where it is on the map visit the Map and Directions of our website.

Can parents come too?

We hope they can. There is a comprehensive programme for parents on both Saturday and Sunday and parents are invited to join us for all, or just some, of the planned events.

On Saturday a trip to Cawdor Castle and gardens (with a picnic lunch) is followed by a visit to the Gordonstoun Boathouse at Hopeman Harbour. After drinks and a short presentation back at Gordonstoun, parents are invited to supper with senior members of staff. A tour of the school with student guides on Sunday is followed by the Chapel Service in St Christopher's Chapel and lunch in the Refectory. After lunch parents are invited to coffee in the North Room where they can participate in a Q&A session before heading out on a tour of a boarding house or watching the final activity session of the weekend.

Some comments from parents who attended previous weekends:

"I much appreciated the professionalism and sensitivity during the hand-over of my child. A genuinely caring staff"

"We had problems persuading our daughter to depart!"

"The weekend was a good opportunity to chat with parents, teachers and students"

"The competition has been blown out of the water! If we were to say 'No' to attending Gordonstoun, we would have a mutiny on our hands!"
