Junior inter-House Tennis Competition

Thank you to all of the players and spectators who were at the inter-House tennis today for the juniors. The weather played its part and the tennis was also very good and exciting at times.

In the girls completion today, Plewlands finished in 3rd place with 8 games won, in 2nd place was Hopeman with 12 but the winners on 22 games was Windmill.  Well done to their team.

In the boys' competition 4th place went to Duffus with 11 games, in 3rd place was Round Square with 12 games, in 2nd place with 30 games won came Cumming but the winners by a single game were Bruce with 31 games.

The Gordonstoun senior team travelled to Elgin LTC in Division 1 of the CKD Galbraith Sponsored Highland District League. In a well played match the younger Gordonstoun team pushed the more experienced Elgin players to their limits very nearly forcing a draw but the Elgin players were able draw upon their years of playing experience to record a 8-1 win.

Week ending 7 May 2017

The senior boys team travelled to Rothiemurchus & Aviemore LTC on Thursday to play their Highland District League Division 1 match last Thursday. In fantastic conditions under the magical Cairngorm plateau the boys enjoyed a close fixture with the  home team.  Despite the efforts of the team they could not quite match the experience and guile of the senior players from the ski capital of Scotland, eventually losing 6-3 in sets. After the game the boys enjoyed the warm hospitality of the R&A clubhouse and they are looking forward to rejoining battle later in the season on home turf.

The senior girls also played R&A LTC but at home this time and recorded a fine victory over the visitors.

On Saturday the senior girls and boys travelled to Strathallan for our annual tennis fixture.  The Gordonstoun teams all enjoyed close games throughout the afternoon but could not quite find the killer touch to take the set wins. The Strathallan players enjoyed the best of the day running out winners despite the best efforts of the Gordonstoun teams.

On Sunday morning several of our U16 tennis players competed in the first round of the Junior Highland Tour singles competition at Gordonstoun. Open to all U16 players in the Highland District, this series of singles events is designed to give opportunities to develop match play skills over the four tournament series.  All of the competitors enjoyed the opportunities despite the cold conditions and played lots of tennis throughout the morning.

On Sunday afternoon the U14 A team enjoyed a narrow victory over Inverness B 7-6 in their thrilling Highland Junior league match, well played to the whole team who demonstrated gritty determination to secure the win.
