What we mean by challenge

The concept of challenge reflects our motto: Plus est en Vous' - 'There is more in you than you think'. Challenge is central to the Gordonstoun ethos.

Challenge comes in many guises just as it does in later life.  Whether it be academic work, sport, the performing arts or any other aspect of School life, many outside our comfort zone, it is an important aspect of personal development.

Our outdoor education programme of expeditions and sail training is specifically designed to challenge students to build on their strengths and to address and minimise their weaknesses.

Gordonstoun's outdoor education provides challenge:

• through tests of endurance, courage and self-discipline - always in controlled conditions, under appropriate supervision and with particular attention paid to safety; and
• by developing strong interpersonal skills that enable students to communicate effectively and productively.

We are distinctive in ensuring that all students undergo outdoor education throughout their time in the School.

These activities are not optional extras. They are essential to students' personal development plans.

They are also included in School fees.
