Adventure Activities
Gordonstoun offers a wide range of adventure activities in which students can participate. These can be curriculum activities such as specific activity modules or they can be optional, extra-curricular activities and include:
- Bushcraft & Wilderness survival skills
- Climbing
- Kayaking
- Leadership skills
- Mountain biking
- Orienteering
- Skiing
- Snowboarding
- Surfing
While these activities can be hugely enjoyable they can have other significant and important benefits for students. They
- provide excellent opportunities to help students learn how to look after themselves, make sound judgements and decisions and take responsibility for their actions;
- allow students to experience a greater level of self-awareness and concentration as well as awareness of others and the environment around them;
- allow students to learn about how they personally react, behave and cope when things become uncomfortable, difficult or challenging.
Safety
All adventure activities are led or instructed by suitably qualified and experienced staff. Gordonstoun takes safety very seriously and strives to set the highest possible standards within the outdoor and adventure activity industry.
Risk assessments are in place for all activities and are under constant review. Support, guidance and advice is sought from external organisations and agencies where Gordonstoun's own level of expertise is insuffucient.
"Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. Security does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than exposure"
Helen Keller
