Expeditions

Our location means that we can provide students with a structured programme of hill and mountain expeditions within reasonable distance and in a variety of beautiful and remote settings.

In addition to empathy with the natural enviornment and the personal challenges provided by the expeditions themselves, these are vital elements in the development of interpersonal skills which is why they are a standard part of the curriculum for all students throughout their time in the School.

Students receive expedition skills training at whatever stage they enter the School. Expeditions can involve:

• Backpacking
• Canoeing and climbing
• Exploration
• Building on an element of the curriculum, such as Physical Education

Students also take part in:

• House expeditions - opportunities for bonding in a house unit; done by all in Years 9 and 10;
• expeditions linked to the Duke of Edinburgh's Award (many students take the Award at Silver and Gold level);
• Mountain Rescue Service and Winter Skills expeditions; and
• expeditions linked to activities at sea.
