Prospective Students' Weekend

Weekly News

PREP SCHOOLS' CHALLENGE
Gordonstoun hosted their prestigious Prep School Challenge last weekend with 90 pupils from 18 Prep Schools travelling to the school from across the UK to compete. The teams were involved in designing contraptions to save the Wizard of Gordonstoun from the Devil, along with competing against the other schools on the Obstacle course and climbing wall, solving problems set by the Outdoor Education department, pushing themselves on a number of sporting challenges and dealing with challenges set by the Gordonstoun Fire, Coastguard, Lifeguard, Mountain Rescue and First Aid services. In the end the winners were Orwell Park School from Suffolk.

YEAR 11 CELEBRATION
Most of the Year 11 students sat their final GCSE exam on Friday, with just Russian and Dance still to be completed. To celebrate the end of exams they attended a formal supper, with speeches and Thank Yous followed by an evening of entertainment including a bouncy castle and disco. It was a fantastic opportunity to relax after a year that has been challenging and demanding. Most of the Year will now complete the expedition part of the Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, followed by a well-deserved rest over the summer.

SPORT
Cricket: Gordonstoun hosted tourists from Ivanhoe Grammar School, Melbourne for the weekend during their tour of the UK. The School played a T20 first and, with limited availability due to exams, were only able to field a very young team. Ivanhoe batted first and scored 156-2 but Gordonstoun could only manage 108-3, losing by 48 runs.

The following day a strengthened Gordonstoun's team played Ivanhoe Grammar in a timed match. Once again batting first, Ivanhoe declared on 254-6, leaving Gordonstoun 44 overs to maintain their wickets and draw the game.
