The academic curriculum
This is based on the Scottish 5-14 programme and the English National Curriculum. The following subjects are on offer:
- Religious Studies
- Design and Technology
- International and Spiritual Citizenship
- Physical Education
- Outdoor Education
More information on the curriculum is available from the Junior School Curriculum Handbook.
Sporting and creative subjects
Regular afternoon sporting and creative activities and broader interests all form part of the core curriculum.
Students also have opportunities to pursue these activities after school and at weekends.
The creative subjects – Music, Drama, Dance, Art and Design Technology – all form part of the mainstream academic curriculum, but also feature in activities offered on weekday afternoons and at other times.
Gordonstoun has a strong musical tradition and individual lessons are available in a range of instruments. Junior School pupils can also join the flourishing Gordonstoun Pipe Band.
Class sizes are small. They vary from year to year but average 12-15. We also make special arrangements where necessary to teach individuals or in small groups.
"The Learning Support at the Junior School has been an enormous help to my son and his interest in learning is far greater than it was before" Parent of Year 5 Pupil
Staff and pupils are able to draw on the expert Learning Support Department at Gordonstoun.
The Department ensures that students with specific learning or organisational difficulties are fully provided for.
