Windmill Lodge aims to provide each girl with a supportive family environment – a ‘home from home’ where she can immediately feel happy and secure. As Housemistress, my aim is to promote an open environment; encouraging honesty, integrity and a commitment to boarding life and all that it entails. Gordonstoun has great opportunities for new experiences and Windmill girls are encouraged to engage in all that is offered to the highest possible level. I feel that it is particularly important that the various strengths and talents of each individual are valued and the girls are encouraged to develop these strengths by contributing to the House, the School and the wider community.
Along with my husband, Stephen, and our two children, Sophie and Will, I live in a flat attached to the boarding house. Our door is always open and the girls are often invited in for brews (get together with food and drinks). To ensure the girls' wellbeing there is a group of staff that are always on hand for help, advice or just a chat on the sofa! AHM Miss Symons, Matron, Mrs Hall, and the team of tutors work tirelessly with me to fully support the House and the girls. There is a tutor on duty every weekday night between 1900 and 2200 during which time tutees have the chance to discuss everything and anything.
At the end of a long day, Windmill is home and it is good to know that many girls from all different backgrounds and cultures walk back after supper or activities knowing that it is theirs and that they love being here.
