Head Chef

Gordonstoun has been leading the way in character education for more than 80 years. Our uniquely broad curriculum provides challenge in the classroom, on the sea and on the mountain, on the stage and on the sports field, and enables students to discover the truth in our motto – Plus Est En Vous – there is more in you.

Situated on the beautiful Moray Coast in the North of Scotland, Gordonstoun is widely recognised as the world leader in character education. We have a co-educational community of over 500 students aged from 6-18, who are predominantly full boarding and are drawn from over 40 countries.

The Refectory is fundamental to the smooth running of Gordonstoun. The team comprises of 7 chefs and 30 Catering assistants who provide 3 meals a day to 600 students and over 100 staff. This role is responsible for leading our talented Chef team to help them provide fine dining for events and visits from distinguished and often high-profile guests, alongside helping the chefs with general preparation work and traying up. The food we prepare is nutritious food for adventure experiences, whether that is a trip to the Cairngorms or sailing the School’s yacht, Ocean Spirit, to the Artic.

We are looking for an inspiring and motivating leader, with the ability to

build good morale in the team, who has experience in a wide range of cooking styles, but also show flair and innovation. Ideally you would have knowledge

of quality improvement techniques, continuous improvement and compliance.

You would be responsible for controlling a budget of £700,000, ensuring that best value for money is always achieved.

In return, your starting salary would be £27,447 FTE and you would be working reasonable hours, normally between 7am and 9pm. There is a generous pension scheme and other staff support benefits. You will have access to a staff discount scheme and cycle to work scheme. Seven weeks holiday a year is standard for full time staff. The refectory is always closed over the Christmas period. We have our own fleet of Minibuses which allows us to offer subsidised transport from Hopeman, Burghead and Lossiemouth.

We have a generous pay range which is performance led, with the potential to work your way up the pay scales. We offer a range of accredited training courses to support staff and help them in their chosen profession or diversify into other roles.

Gordonstoun is striving to build a team that is truly inclusive. We welcome applications from marginalised and under-represented groups.
