The School
Situated on the beautiful Moray Coast in the North of Scotland, Gordonstoun is widely recognised as the world leader in character education. We have a co-educational community of over 500 students aged from 6-18, who are predominantly full boarding and are drawn from over 40 countries. A willingness to be fully involved in school life, including the wide range of sporting, creative or outdoor activities, is expected. A teaching subject specialism would be highly valued.
The position and role of Houseparent
Gordonstoun has been leading the way in character education for more than 80 years. Our uniquely broad curriculum provides challenge in the classroom, at sea and in the mountains, on the stage and on the sports fields and enables students to discover the truth in our motto – Plus Est En Vous – there is more in you. The Houseparent (HP) is the Head of the Pastoral Team of Staff in their Boarding House. As such, they carry responsibility for the pastoral life of the House and its development.
The HPs are directly responsible to the Assistant Head Boarding and through them, to the Deputy Head (Pastoral Care), Head of Senior School and Principal. All HPs are members of the HP and Pastoral (PAS) Committees.
The post-holder will be required to meet and maintain the requirements to register with the General Teaching Council Scotland or equivalent body, like the Scottish Social Services Council. Gordonstoun is striving to build a team that is truly inclusive and therefore welcomes applications from marginalised and under-represented groups. We would consider non-teachers, with the appropriate experience, for this role. We reserved the right to interview early for this post.
