Head of Physical Education
Head of Physical Education
Situated on the beautiful Moray Coast in the North of Scotland, Gordonstoun is widely recognised as the world leader in character education. We have a co-educational community of over 500 students aged from 6-18, who are predominantly full boarding and are drawn from over 40 countries.
We are looking for an inspirational Head of Physical Education to lead this thriving department who work across the junior and senior schools. This is a unique opportunity to work in a school that puts sport and physical activity in the outdoors at the very heart of what it does. You will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with a proven track record in delivering high quality core and examined Physical Education lessons. You will perhaps have some experience in running a PE Department, or be an ambitious teacher who is now ready to make the step up in to running your first department. You will be passionate about working with students who are eager to learn and challenge themselves, and keen to get the best from students of all abilities. At the moment, as well as a comprehensive programme of core PE across the school, we teach both GCSE PE and BTEC sport, and are keen to see this develop in the years ahead.
A wide variety of major sports are offered, including rugby, netball, hockey, football, tennis, squash, cricket and badminton. Our facilities include a state of the art sports centre with an indoor climbing wall, swimming pool, a fully equipped strength and conditioning room and four squash courts. It also has classrooms for the delivery of academic PE. Outside there are multiple pitches, tennis courts, a full-sized floodlit Astroturf and a 400 metre running track.
Gordonstoun encourages all staff to engage in our wonderfully broad programme, and we are seeking someone who is keen to play an active role in the full life of this vibrant and busy boarding school. Our famed outdoor education programme also involves all staff in taking expeditions in to the Cairngorm mountains, and opportunities to sail on our 80 foot yacht, Ocean Spirit, are also available for staff, as well as being compulsory for all students.
All candidates should be registered or eligible for registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland, as this is a condition of employment. The post is suitable for a current Head of PE, or an ambitious and forward thinking PE teacher who is keen to lead their first department.
Gordonstoun is striving to build a team that is truly inclusive. We welcome applications from marginalised and under-represented groups.
